Add New PostIn order to add a new post you must first navigate to the correct menu option. Once the Add New Post page is opened, there are a number of areas that must be filled out, along with quite a few options that make the post easier to search on the site. These options also help the post to be recognized by the search engines.

The first item required in a title for the post. It’s really important that the title accurately describe the content of the post itself. This helpful bit of advise is very important as it helps visitors to your site decide which articles they’d like to read. Make it easy for visitors to find the information that will be helpful to them.

The second required item is the text to be contained in the body of the post itself. This is the most important information a web site can provide, so take care to ensure this text is of use to people.

Let’s take a step back for a moment. The only reason people search on the Internet is to find a solution to a problem or an answer to a question. In order for your site to be found, it must contain information that will answer questions or solve problems. Does your Post contain this kind of content? If not, go back and make sure it does.

Choose a Domain Name

A Domain name is an address on the internet.  They’re listed above in the adress bar. Example - www.example.com

The domain name is translated to a numerical address called an IP address. The translation is performed by the Domain Name Services (DNS) resolver. This is how typing a domain name in an internet browser brings people to web sites.

There’s some thoughts to keep in mind when choosing a domain name.

First, register a domain with the .com suffix. The .com “suffix” is what’s called a TLD (top-level domain).

Why do I recommend the .com TLD? First it’s part of general knowledge, even among the greater population that know nothing about the Internet.

There’ll be times when you want to provide your domain name verbally to a friend, potential customer or business associate. So make it easy to remember.

Securing a short .com domain name can be difficult. Why? There are over  84 million domain names registered with a .com  The chances finding the exact name you desire can pose a real challenge.

The trick is to choose something memorable, short, concise and containing words related to your name or site. Use all of your creativity to develop some great domain names.

Let’s use the domain name of this site as an example (www.ceg-design.com) it was necessary to use a hypen between the ceg and design. The reason being cegdesign.com domain was already taken. The hyphen makes the address easier to read. Consider using a hypen in your domain name, it may help.

Some caveats.  A long run-on name may read differently than you imagined when you first created it. A few examples include; expertsexchange.com (Experts Exchange not Expert Sex Change), therapistfinder.com (Therapist Finder not The Rapist Finder), or whorepresents.com (Who Represents not Whore Presents). It can cause a problem if the name can be read in different ways. Some may not be complimentary to you or your business. Use care when creating a domain name.

When you find a great name, register it immediately. There is a good chance if you wait an hour or two, someone else could register the name before you do. Don’t let a good name get away!

What’s the most important aspect of a web site?

Some say design. Others layout. What about some whiz bang Flash graphics to wow folks?

While good design and layout are important, content is the most valuable aspect of ANY web site. Strong words.

Think about it for a moment. Why would someone bother visiting your site in the first place? To be amazed by your design and/or layout? Watch your wiz bang flash animation? Or do they have a problem requiring a solution?

Yes Content is King!

The answer is clear. They need help and they’re looking for your solution. How can they find that answer? Hopefully, in your web site’s content.

In order to work properly, the content of your site MUST communicate the products, services or entertainment you provide. How else can the world find your site? Your “job” is to provide content that makes it easy to find your site. People need to know if you can provide the solution to their problem. The written content on your site provides the opportunity for you to shine.

Before applying the “black magic” internet gurus claim will bring thousands, if not millions to your door, the site content must provide the information your audience is searching for.
